About
sound baths.

What is a sound bath, and what does it actually do?

A sound bath is a session where you lie down and rest while instruments are played live around you. We call ours a sound journey.

Long tones from handpan, gong and bowls give your attention one simple thing to rest on. Thinking slows down, the body settles, and an hour passes without you steering it. That is the whole mechanism.

It is rest, not treatment. We make no medical claims and we do not treat conditions. Most people leave calm and rested, and that is what we offer.

What actually happens in a session?
You take a mat, we say a few words, and then we play: handpan, gong, and Tibetan and crystal bowls. You lie down and close your eyes. No participation required. Sessions run 75 minutes. Most people spend them somewhere between awake and asleep.
How many people are in a session?
Eight mats, so eight people. It stays small on purpose.
What does it feel like?
Different for everyone. Some people feel deeply relaxed. Some notice their mind going quiet. Some feel nothing unusual and just leave feeling rested. All of those are fine outcomes.
Is it like meditation?
Not exactly. You do not have to focus or follow any instructions. The sound does most of the work. You show up and let it.
Can I fall asleep?
Yes, and most people do at some point. Sleeping through part of a session is a good sign, not a wasted ticket.
Can I leave in the middle?
Yes, at any time. Stand up and walk out. Nobody will stop you or ask why afterwards. Sitting up on your mat is fine too, if lying down stops being comfortable.
Do I need any experience or background?
None at all. You do not need to know anything about music or sound work. If you can lie still for an hour, you are ready.
Is it suitable if I am pregnant, or have a hearing condition?

Tell us before the session and we will adjust. We lower the volume, keep the gong further from your mat, and place you where the sound is softest. The same applies for epilepsy, recent surgery, tinnitus or sensitivity to loud sound.

We are not doctors and we give no medical advice. If you have any doubt, check with your own doctor first, then message us with what they say and we will work around it.

Should I eat beforehand?
Eat light. A full meal right before makes it harder to relax.
What should I wear, and what should I bring?
Loose, comfortable clothes you can lie down in. Bring a light layer, because lying still for an hour makes you cooler than you expect. We provide the mats. Everything else you can leave at home.
Where can I read more about the sessions?
The sound journeys section on the main page covers the instruments, the terrace and the open sessions. For a session on your own, see private and villa sound healing.

About
handpan lessons.

Do I need musical experience to learn handpan?
No. Most people who come to us have never played an instrument. Each handpan is tuned to one scale, so the notes agree with each other and there are no wrong notes to avoid.
How quickly can I learn?
Most people leave a first lesson able to play simple patterns that sound like music. It is one of the fastest instruments to get started on. Rhythm is the part that takes longer, and that is what we work on after the basics.
Private or group, which is better for me?
Private lessons give you full focus and your own pace, good if you have specific goals. Group lessons suit couples, friends and travel companions, and cost ฿1,000 more per extra player, up to three.
Do I need my own handpan?
No. We provide the instruments. On the 3-Day Handpan Journey the handpan stays with you between lessons. If you are thinking about buying one, we will talk you through scales, makers and prices before you spend anything.
Where do lessons take place?
At the Noom terrace in Lamai, or we come to your hotel, villa or chosen spot anywhere on Samui.
What do lessons cost?
A demo lesson is ฿2,000. The 3-Day Handpan Journey is ฿12,000 for three days, one to one. An eight-lesson course is ฿20,000 for sixteen hours. Go on from the demo lesson to the 3-Day Journey or the course and the full ฿2,000 comes off. Full detail on the handpan lessons page.
Is there an online course after my lessons?
Yes. Noom Learn is our online practice course, with practice pages, play-along tracks and videos. Every student, and everyone who books a session or buys a Noom Starter handpan, gets every handpan level. Levels 0 and 1 are free for anyone to try. The D Kurd 9 Practice Book (฿590, one payment) opens every level too. We also have a sound healing course, free to start.
Can children learn?
Yes. The instrument suits small hands and asks for no reading of music. Tell us the age when you message and we set the lesson length to match.
I am only in Samui for a few days. Is one lesson worth it?
Yes. A single session is enough to learn the basics and leave with something you can keep practising, even without an instrument.

Practical
stuff.

How much does a session cost?
A group session on the terrace is ฿600, and handpan listening is ฿500 a person. A private session at the studio starts at ฿3,000 for two guests, plus ฿500 per extra guest up to eight. A session at your villa or hotel starts at ฿4,000 for two guests, plus ฿500 per guest up to ten. The Regulars pass is ฿2,000 for four sessions.
How do I book?
Online, on our booking page. Choose a session and a time. Mats at our group sessions are confirmed as soon as you book. Private sessions and lessons are a request, which we confirm on WhatsApp, usually within a few hours. You can pay by card once you have booked, or on the day. The Regulars pass is on the booking page too. For anything else, message us on WhatsApp or Instagram.
How far ahead should I book?
A day or two ahead is usually enough for a terrace session, though there are only eight mats and the same day can be full. Book a week ahead for high season, private evenings and villa sessions. For handpan courses, give us a few days so we can fit the hours around your stay.
How do I pay?
Cash, bank transfer or Thai QR, either before the session or when you arrive. Bring 600 baht if you prefer cash. For passes and courses we send a QR code on WhatsApp, and you get a PDF pass straight away.
Do sessions run in the rain?
Yes. The terrace is covered, so sessions and lessons run. Rain on the roof is part of it.
Do you come to villas and hotels?
Yes. We bring the instruments and set the room at your villa, hotel or retreat anywhere on Koh Samui. Villa sessions start at ฿4,000 for two guests, plus ฿500 per guest up to ten.
What languages do you run sessions in?
English. There is little talking anyway: a few words at the start, then the instruments. Message us if you would like a private session in Turkish or Thai.
Is the studio indoors or outdoors?
A covered open-air terrace in Lamai, five minutes inland from the beach, surrounded by trees. Park at the bottom and take the stairs. We send a short video for finding it once you book.
Can I bring kids?
Yes, message us and we will let you know what works depending on age.
What if I need to cancel?
Life happens. Message us as early as you can and we will sort it out.
How does The Regulars pass work?
฿2,000 for four of our open sessions, valid one year from your first. The pass is in your name; you can bring one guest to a session, and their mat counts as one of your four. A finished card gives you ten percent off our sessions and lessons, always. Two full passes buy a private evening on the terrace for up to eight guests. Order it on our booking page and pay by card or at your first session, where you collect the card. Full refund within 7 days of purchase.
Do you run open jams?
Sometimes. Friends visit, the instruments come out, and we play. Join the mailing list to hear when one is happening.
Do you work with hotels, retreats or venues?
Yes. We hold sessions for spas, yoga spaces, hotels and retreats across Samui, as one-off events or on a regular schedule. Message us about private events and partnerships.
How often do you run sound healing in Lamai?
Twice a week: Wednesday and Sunday, 17:30, on the terrace in Lamai. When a date moves, the booking page says so. On the other evenings at 17:30, Can plays solo handpan for an hour once four people join the list.
