Noom Sound Studio · Handpan for two
Lamai · Koh Samui · for two
In three hours, two people who have never played music write a handpan piece together and play it side by side. You leave with it written out as tab, so it stays with you.

The three hours
It starts with tea and a first look at the instrument. Then Can plays for you for fifteen to twenty minutes, a small opening before your hands go near the steel.
From there you learn side by side: how to touch the handpan so the note rings, a rhythm pattern to hold the beat, then an arpeggio and a melody. Each of you finds a melody phrase of your own. Over snacks and drinks you give your piece a name. In the last half hour you build it together: one holds the rhythm while the other plays solo, then you swap, with Can joining on drum or guitar.
Tea, and meet the handpan.
The opening. Can plays for you.
Learning, part one. Touch, then the rhythm pattern you both hold.
A short break.
Learning, part two. Arpeggio and melody. Each of you finds your own phrase.
Energy balls, smoothies and a ginger shot. You name your piece.
The duet. One holds the beat, the other plays solo, then you swap.
Your piece in your hands. Starting at 15:00 puts this moment at sunset.

Why it works for beginners
Every handpan is tuned to one scale. The maker hammers only notes that belong together into the steel, so anything you play fits. That is what lets two people with no music behind them write a real piece in one sitting.
We do not teach you a song. You compose your own from what you practise, and the last half hour puts the parts together. Both handpans are in D Kurd, a warm minor scale, so your two parts always agree. More on this in is the handpan hard to learn?
What you take home
You go home with your piece written out as handpan tab, bar by bar, left and right hand, on a card we fill in with you. On the back are simple practices, so you can keep playing wherever you are.
Film as much as you like. We promise a memory, not a video.

Two handpans in D Kurd, one each, for the whole session.
Written out as handpan tab, left and right hand.
Tea, then a snack pack: vegan energy balls made with dates, nuts and coconut, a fresh orange smoothie with electrolytes and magnesium, and a ginger and lemon shot.
Practices to keep learning at home.

Good to know
You need nothing with you. Wear clothes you can sit cross-legged in, and come with short nails if you can, because nails get between your fingers and the steel.
The terrace is reached by stairs, so it is not wheelchair accessible. If that matters, we come to your villa instead. Transport to the terrace is not included; we send you the pin when you book.
Who hosts
Can has played handpan since 2016 and taught it since 2024. He is certified in Integral Sound Healing by the Academy of Sound Healing (2024) and in Advanced Sound Facilitation by Shantika Academy (2025), and he teaches rhythm and music theory alongside the instrument. If one afternoon leaves you wanting more, the 3-Day Handpan Journey picks up where it ends.
