Noom Sound Studio · Sound healing in Koh Samui
Lamai · Koh Samui
Open sessions on our terrace in Lamai every Wednesday and Sunday at 17:30. Eight mats, ฿600, seventy-five minutes. Two of us play handpan, gong, crystal and Tibetan bowls while you lie down and do nothing at all.

Open sessions
Every session below is open to anyone. You book a single mat, you arrive, you leave. Nobody will ask you to introduce yourself and nothing is expected of you afterwards.
Noom Terrace, Lamai · 75 min · 17:30 (5:30 pm)
Our weekly open session, in the middle of the week when most people need it. Handpan, gong, crystal and Tibetan bowls, played live by two of us. Eight mats.
Book a mat →Noom Terrace, Lamai · 75 min · 17:30 (5:30 pm)
The same session at the end of the week, with the sunset sitting underneath it. The busier of the two, so book a few days out if your stay is short.
Book a mat →A second sitting at 16:00 opens by itself once the 17:30 has sold out. It runs when at least four mats are taken, and it only appears on the booking page while it is open.
The Regulars pass is ฿2,000 for four sessions, valid a year from your first session. It is in your name, and you can bring one guest along. It works out cheaper from the fourth session on, and plenty of people on the island keep one going.
Cash, bank transfer or Thai QR, either beforehand or when you arrive. Nothing is taken when you book a mat, and if you have to drop out, message us and we will sort it out.
We usually reply within a few hours.
The session
You arrive about ten minutes early and take a mat. There is tea. We say a few words, you lie down and close your eyes, and then we play: handpan, gong, and Tibetan and crystal bowls. Seventy-five minutes. No participation is required at any point.
What it feels like is different for everyone. Some people go deeply relaxed, some notice their thinking go quiet, some feel nothing unusual and leave rested. Most spend the hour somewhere between awake and asleep. All of those are the session working. We wrote up what happens in a sound bath, and why it relaxes you, with the research behind it.
Everything is acoustic. Nothing is plugged in, nothing is recorded, and there is no playlist running underneath. What you hear is two people playing in the room you are lying in, which is why it never sounds twice the same.
Sound healing, sound bath and gong bath are the same thing, and you will see all three on Koh Samui. We call ours a sound journey because it moves through phases rather than holding one texture, but if you came here looking for a sound bath, this is it.
It is rest, not treatment. We make no medical claims and we do not treat conditions.

I recently joined a sound journey at Noom Studio, and it felt very different from other sessions I’ve experienced.
As a yoga teacher, I’ve attended many sound healings, but the way the handpan, Tibetan bowls, and gong were harmonized here was truly special. The instruments didn’t just play one after another, they flowed together in a very balanced and intentional way.
The Sunday sound journey on the terrace became a ritual during my stay.
Went three weeks in a row. Worth planning your whole week around it.
Where
The studio sits five minutes inland from Lamai beach, in the forest above the sea. You park at the bottom and take the stairs; it is a short climb and the reason the place is quiet. The terrace is open on three sides and covered overhead, so sessions run in the rain, and rain on the roof becomes part of them.
From the mats you look out over trees and then water. On Sundays the light goes orange about twenty minutes in. There is no road noise, no music from a bar, and nothing between you and the sound except the room.
We send a short video for finding the turning once you book, because the entrance is easy to drive past.

On your own
If Wednesday and Sunday do not fall inside your stay, the other evenings at 17:30 have handpan listening: Can plays solo for an hour once four people join, ฿500 a person. If you would rather not lie down a metre from a stranger, the same session can be held for your group alone on any day. On the terrace it starts at ฿3,000 for two. At your villa, hotel or retreat anywhere on Koh Samui it starts at ฿4,000, and we bring the instruments, the mats and everything else.
Couples book it most, usually around sunset. After that come birthdays, last nights, whole villas of eight, and retreat organisers who want one evening where nothing is asked of anyone.
Who plays
Can is a handpan artist and certified sound therapist who moved to Samui to play full time. Melie is a yoga and sound therapist, plays gong and bowls, and runs House of Holistic. Between them they hold every session on this page, which is why the number of mats is eight and not thirty.
We have also been invited to play at Four Seasons, Kamalaya, Anantara Lawana, W Koh Samui, Conrad, Absolute Sanctuary, Samujana and 5 Elements, and Can holds a place in the Kamalaya wellness programme. That work pays the rent; the terrace is the reason for it.

Good to know
Anything loose you can lie in for over an hour. Bring something warm for your top half; you cool down quickly once you stop moving, even here.
Eat light beforehand, or a couple of hours before. A full stomach is the most common reason people fidget through the first twenty minutes.
Ten minutes early, so you can settle before we start. Walking in once the room has gone quiet is hard on everyone, yourself included.
Mats, tea and drinking water. Everything else you can leave at home.
If you are pregnant, have a hearing condition, tinnitus or epilepsy, have had recent surgery, or are sensitive to loud sound, say so before we start. We lower the volume, keep the gong further from your mat and place you where the sound is softest. We are not doctors and we give no medical advice: if you have any doubt, ask yours first.
Yes, but message us first with their age and we will tell you what works. A terrace session is seventy-five minutes of lying still, which suits some children and not others.
